Dishonesty and deception in Labor's DNA
The Bligh government has sacrificed the integrity of the Westminster system for their own cheap political gain by trashing parliamentary protocol during the last sitting week for 2011 – rushing three Bills through without debate. The Premier has been caught out being the architect of dishonestly and deliberately misleading Queensland parliament. Labor’s Deputy Whip Carolyn Male had advised the LNP Opposition that Parliament would be introducing three Bills which would take up a full hour, allowing LNP Members the opportunity to briefly leave the chamber. The Premier seized the opportunity to ram the Bills through – without debate. They were the Commonwealth Games Arrangements Bill, Criminal Organisation Amendment Bill and the Holidays and other Legislation Amendment Bill.
Premier Bligh has again proven she leads a party that puts political trickery and point scoring ahead of parliamentary conventions. Labor allowed no time for debate, for anyone to speak, not even their own Members. Anna Bligh is not fit to run our great state.
The Labor party told the Opposition one thing, then did another. It’s in their DNA.
In outcome it changed nothing - as the three Bills were not going to be opposed by the LNP – but it reinforced the fact that Labor lies.
Queenslanders are already angry at Premier Bligh’s blatant lies before the last election - when she withheld the truth about asset sales and the fuel tax.
The Premier has shown her true form yet again – lying to the Queensland Opposition and violating normal, acceptable parliamentary procedure.
The Premier’s actions and those of her dishonest government will only serve to reinforce public perceptions Labor cannot be trusted.
Queenslanders have a right to demand honesty and integrity from their Premier.
