Good news for country race clubs
Country racing is the lifeblood of Queensland’s racing industry and will get a new deal under the LNP. Under the tired 20 year old Labor Government's city-focused racing policies, around 250 country race meets have been cut leaving many clubs struggling to survive. Clubs like Wondai, Eidsvold, Mt Perry, Taroom, Thangool and Gayndah.
While Labor’s cuts have brought the industry to its knees, the LNP recognises the social importance of country racing and will provide the support the industry needs to have a real future.
Instead of Labor’s ruthless cutting and slashing to the point where country clubs are struggling to hold their meetings and feature race days, the LNP is determined to encourage more race meetings with more horses, more trainers and more people attending.
Without country racing where would our horses and jockeys get a start? This is why our million dollar per year incentive plan is a good start.
Country racing supports jobs and provides cash-flow for vets, produce stores and saddlers and this is why we need to nurture the sector.
On the same day as he announced the LNP's commitment of an extra $1 million for country racing, Campbell Newman visited several race tracks and talked to racing officials about what is needed to ensure the long-term viability of our country race clubs.
With our plans to grow a four pillar economy and revitalise country racing, the LNP will get all of Queensland back on track and boost the lifestyle opportunities of regional communities.
