The CanDo LNP - Building Queensland's Future Together - Discussion Paper

The LNP is committed to getting Queensland back on track in economic performance, social development and infrastructure investment and will have a real plan for our State's future. The Building Queensland's Future Together Discussion Paper has been launched today. This paper is an opportunity for the community to participate and have a say in Queensland's future infrastructure priorities. The Discussion Paper proposes:

Fast Tracking “Critical Priority Projects”

• Bruce Highway – Brisbane to Cairns

• Brisbane Inner City Rail• Toowoomba Range Western Freight Corridor

• Eastern Busway to Capalaba

• Roads to Resources in Regional Queensland

• Upgrades for dangerous Level Rail Crossings 

Better Coordination and Planning

• Establish ‘Infrastructure Queensland’ to advise the State government on longterm infrastructure planning, prioritisation and ongoing management andmaintenance.

• As part of fast tracking the Bruce Highway, form a ‘Bruce Highway CrisisManagement Group’ to bring all levels of government, motoring organisations andusers together to lobby for funding for action.

• Coordinator-General to be focused on coordinating and delivering major projectsrather than just being a regulator.

• Make a long term commitment to providing an ongoing pipeline of investment.

• Work with the Council of Mayors and Local Governments to maximise the delivery ofthe infrastructure projects that they have identified in their planning processes. 

Funding Models

• Establish ‘Queensland Projects’ – a standalone unit in Queensland Treasurydriving innovative cooperative funding models to maximise private investment inQueensland’s infrastructure.

• Standardise the requirements of major project proponents to invest in communityand social infrastructure when developing major projects and establish structures tocoordinate and maximise the effectiveness of that investment.

• Maximise the opportunities for local businesses in infrastructure projects. 

Stronger Accountability

• Reform the current mega-department structures of DEEDI and DERM to ensurethere are clear lines of authority with indisputable Ministerial responsibility andaccountability.

• Remove regulatory bottlenecks and streamline approval processes for majorindustrial development and infrastructure projects.
