Bligh back-flips on preferences - again
For two days in a row the Premier Anna Bligh has flipped on her position over the issue of Greens preferences. In parliament the Premier said ‘Labor went to the election recommending to Labor voters to ‘Just Vote 1’, and that is what we intend to do at the next election’. But she was later forced to confess that her party had done deals with the Greens.
In her apology to parliament she revealed that she had even done a preference swap in her own seat – but had forgotten about it. The Premier told parliament today – ‘it’s likely to be a vote one strategy’.
But the Premier then refused to rule out whether there will be an ALP-Green preference arrangement again this election.
The Premier is flip-flopping daily. But, she knows she could need the Green preferences to save her political skin.
It would be a deal with the devil - because the Premier is well aware that the Greens are determined to close down the state’s coal industry.
It is Greens policy to also ban recreational fishing off most of the Queensland coast and reintroduce death duties.
It’s those policies that the Premier publicly attacks as radical and extreme – but she is still prepared to meekly and quietly buckle under to Greens pressure in return for their votes.
The danger for Queensland is that we could end up with a repeat of the chaos that is strangling government in Canberra.
The Premier should stop the political gymnastics – the back-flipping and contortions, and tell Queenslanders whether she will embrace the Greens and their radical policies before the next election.
The LNP team is clear - there will be no deals. The LNP is urging Queenslanders to vote one.
