Bridge repair backlog blows out

Labor's failure to properly manage our roads and infrastructure has been exposed again with bureaucrats confessing that $250 million was needed to clear the backlog of repairs on bridges and culverts across Queensland. LNP Shadow Minister for Main Roads, Fisheries & Marine Infrastructure Dr Mark Robinson said Labor was again letting down Queensland motorists. “Investigations show that it will take years to clear the maintenance backlog,” Dr Robinson said.

“Bureaucrats have confirmed what the incompetent Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace would never admit - that is, that the safety inspections for Queensland’s 3000 road bridges and 4000 culverts were running years behind, well before last summer’s storms and floods.

“This government has continued to skimp on infrastructure spending and all indications are that under Labor – they would never catch up with, or clear the problems they have failed to deal with.

“It just another disgusting example of Labor incompetence and one on which the boorish Roads Minister Craig Wallace is saying nothing.”

Dr Robinson said Labor’s carbon tax would also put all road and bridge maintenance and repairs under a cloud - with the costs for all works likely to rise substantially.

“We’re not talking about a couple of culverts and a few bridges,” Dr Robinson said.“This is a quarter of a billion dollars for bridges and culverts right across the State – on Mr Wallace’s watch.

“The RACQ is absolutely right to voice concern.

“Only a CanDo LNP government will forward plan and deliver for Queensland road users.”
