Labor 'con job' on disaster reinsurance

The long term Labor Government appears to be just “going through the motions” on natural disaster reinsurance and has made up its mind before even getting a quote. LNP Shadow Treasurer Tim Nicholls says the Queensland Labor Government’s decision to finally go to the market on reinsurance after weeks of resistance is just a charade to help their Labor mates in Canberra pass the flood levy.

“Just last night, Anna Bligh was claiming disaster reinsurance was ‘not cost effective in a state as big as Queensland’ and was reinforcing that today,” Mr Nicholls said.

“But only yesterday afternoon Treasurer Andrew Fraser and accident prone Minister Rachel Nolan released a statement claiming that ‘the Queensland Government will be seeking reinsurance for natural disasters’.

“Labor’s credibility is in tatters. The left hand doesn’t seem to know what the right hand is doing.

“If they are serious, why didn’t they get the quotes before this latest series of natural disasters?

“Labor just can’t be trusted to manage the economy properly.

“Is it any wonder the Queensland budget was in an absolute mess before the floods and cyclone struck?”
